The experiences and exploits of a college grad trying to make it in the "real world:" leaving school and friends in New England, moving south, and living with her boyfriend. Watch as I pretend to be an adult.
Ok, so here I am a week later finally getting around to talking about the chica's trip. Sorry, things have been really busy! The girls flew into town on Friday morning, and I picked them up at Dulles. I had to go into work for a few hours, so I dropped them off at a metro station and they went into DC for the afternoon. Around 3 I went to pick Lee up, because she wasn't feeling well, did some chores, and then headed out to run some errands. I got a call from Kathy saying they were coming back, and went back to the metro stop to pick them up. Then it was off to finish my errands, pick up some groceries, and get back to the house to make dinner. We made some delish pasta and garlic bread, and downed many many glasses of wine. My favorite part of the evening was after dinner when we were cleaning up the kitchen. Alison, for some reason, starting pointing at her ovaries (or, at least the area of her stomach where they would be aproximately located), and thrust her pelvis forward, exclaiming something about said ovaries. As she did, my father, passing through the hall outside the kitchen, asked in a confused tone, "Hey, what's going on in there?" LOL. Ali turned bright red, immediately pulled her shirt back down over her stomach, and stammered something about "er, nothing at all...oh my god, I'm so embarrased." Ahahah. Saturday we met up with a brother of one of Ali's friends for an "insiders" tour of the Capital building. He works as an aid for one of the Reps, and showed up around. I'd been there a couple times before, but it was pretty cool none-the-less. After grabbing a late lunch at Cosi, we headed back to NoVa for dinner and to change. A few hours later, fed and properly attired, we headed out to one of the clubs in Adams Morgan, and made arrangements to meet up with one of Lee and Kathy's friends from Sea Semester and his roommate. That night rocked. As soon as we got in, we went to check our coats. As we chated w/ the guy maning the coat room, we found out he actually organized things there, and by day was a database programmer somewhere in NoVa. He took our coats and then got us free drinks at the bar- way to start the night off right. After fending off some sketchy German middle aged men, Ali and I went to bum a cigarette off a kind of doughy looking asian kid. I actually feel bad about this- usually when I bum a smoke, I make an effort to talk to the person I'm bumming from. It's really only polite, after all. But this time, well, Ali and I were buzzed, and so not interested, so after a quick "Thankyou!" we ran away with our purloined cigs. Anyway, Lee and Kathy's friend got there, and many drinks were consumed. The rest of the night went by in a blur of dancing and silly pictures, until suddenly Ali looked at her watch and exclaimed, "Oh my god, it's 2:40!" Since the Metro stopped running at 3, we were running really short on time. We got our jackets, said good bye to the boys, and made a mad dash for the metro station. It turned out that the metro was staying open an hour later because of daylight savings time, so we were still safe. We ended up having about 20 minutes to wait for a train, and while we were waiting Kathy called the Sea Semester boy and his roomie. Somehow it was agreed upon that they come back with us, and they jumped off a redline train and ran to our station, arriving just in time. We got back to Fairfax, stayed up late talking, and then took them back to the Springfield metro stop around 8:30. After crashing for a few more hours, we got up and went into Georgetown for a little shopping. We hit a bunch of shops, most of them incredibly expensive, and got lunch at a great little pub-type place, and had a thourougly enjoyable afternoon. Lee's flight left at 9 that evening, so we dropped her off at Dulles on the way home, and crashed. We were all exhausted from the night before, and fell asleep after watching Desp Housewives. The next day I had to go into work, so I have Ali and Kathy the car to go into DC for a little more sightseeing. They picked me up at my office at 4 and we got them out to Dulles with just enough time to get to their flight. Then it was back to Clifton for me, and another early night. I had a great time hanging out with them, they're a ton of fun. Can't wait til our next adventure!
