The experiences and exploits of a college grad trying to make it in the "real world:" leaving school and friends in New England, moving south, and living with her boyfriend. Watch as I pretend to be an adult.

Well, work still sucks. As I said to Elija, "It's going to be really hard not to burn bridges when I quit."
Not that I'm going to quit any time soon- I need to stick it out a year. But the urge to do so in a blaze of glory, drawing inspiration from Office Space is strong. Oh, it is strong indeed, young Skywalker.
I had a fabulous weekend. On Friday I went to see Motorcycle Diaries (the film based on Che Guevara's life), and then went out to an insanely pricey Vietnamese restaurant. Saturday found Elija and I exploring this great little park near campus as we took advantage of the beautiful weather and had a picnic. Seriously, the days lately have been insanely gorgeous. Blue skies, weather in the mid 70s. It makes me hate work even more, because when I leave for lunch I catch a brief glimpse of what I'm missing. Ugh. On Sunday I did errands. I went to the farmer's market for produce, HT's for meat and snacks, did laundry, did a little work for EC, cleaned the downstairs.
I went to the gym both days, and I swear, some of the old guys than hang around there...anyway.
The recent riots in France have me thinking. Where has civil disobedience in the country gone? Our parents did such amazing things, when you think about it. When did we decide that it was too much effort to get up and protest?
Mind you, I don't advocate burning cars...but it's something, you know? It may be selfish, pointlessly destructive, and ultimately futile, but it shows a certain courage- a refusal to sit passively while L'Etat farts in their general direction yet again.
I suppose this is a topic for another post. Actually, I think you guys better prepare yourselves for a few social/political posts. Recent events (not just pouty French teenagers burning private property) have been on my mind a lot recently. Incidentally, if you've never bothered to peruse the lyrics of the La Marseillaise (French national anthem), and I confess I only have because I was forced to learn it in elementary school, check them out here . Original French and English translations provided...also, an interesting history, if you have a few minutes.
