The experiences and exploits of a college grad trying to make it in the "real world:" leaving school and friends in New England, moving south, and living with her boyfriend. Watch as I pretend to be an adult.
For the first time in my life, I believe that the second amendment is a more than an antiquated peice of the Constitution that is no longer applicable to modern life.
That's the right to bear arms, folks.
Prior to the Bush administration, I really believed in strict gun control. And, in fact, I still think that guns in the hands of your average citizen is just asking for trouble. But you know what's worse than Joe Schmoe with a 10-gauge? Big Brother.
Seriously, this government now officially scares the crap out of me. Personal information like addresses, social security #s, physical characteristics, etc will be stored in a database accesible to the fed gov't (and anyone talented enough to hack it), thanks to the Real ID bill. Our new passports have/will have RFID chips in them which broadcast almost the same information. The gov't can access medical, library, and financial records without having to prove anything more than a "suspected link" to an illegal person or group.
And that's just the start. For the first time ever, I understand why we might REALLY need guns: to prevent the state from taking away our civil liberties.
Not that a violent uprising would ever take place in this country- we're far too complacent here. But take away guns, and you take away even the possibility of an armed rebellion. Everything I see in the news reinforces my belief that our leaders have lost their sense of accountability. So many of them are greedy, corrupt, and power hungry. It's sad, and very infuriating.
So, while I won't be joining the NRA any time soon, I now am wholeheartedly behind the second amendment.
'Cause I, for one, do not welcome our new fatcat overlords.
