Pieces of me (or my living room)

I was trying to do something interesting with the mirror and got this instead. This little smidge of photo actually tells more about me than just about anything else in my apartment, surprisingly enough.

Starting at the left and moving right:

The picture in the wooden frame is of a friend and me in Madrid, taken my senior year in highschool.

The purple crystal is one of the oldest things I have. I got it one summer in Georgia when I was- oh, maybe 7. We would always go on "educational" outings once or twice during our stay, and one year we went to some caves famous for their mineral deposites. We bought souvineers on the way out, and that's what I picked. I think it was actually one of the last summers we went before my parents got divorced.

To the right of the candle is a red, vaguely heartshaped box that Elija gave me for Valentine's day two years ago. I love it.

The picture in the silver frame is from Australia. We were snorkeling off the coast of a little tiny island on the Great Barrier Reef off Cairns. Fabulous, fabulous day.

The candle and stand don't mean anything, neither does the mirror, of which you can see the bottom edge- though I suppose those of you who saw my room in Squire will remember it.

The bookshelf itself, Elija and I made together last summer before moving to Raleigh. He got incredibly frustrated with me because I *had* to have the arched piece in the front, which turned out to be a huge pain in the ass to make with no band saw. I still maintain that it wouldn't look nearly as nice without it- and I do think the shelf is beautiful. It also reminds me how nice it felt to work with the boy, building something that turned out to be both lovely and functional.

Finally, the books- there's a pretty good representation of everything I read on that top shelf. It's basically my catch-all for small paperbacks.

Funny how such a small collection of objects can reveal so much about a person.
